Monthly update for April 2013
Lots of activity this month with both the British Open and the World Championships taking place. Our AGM was held at Seacourt and our new Incentive Scheme for amateurs has been introduced. See the News items below.
Several changes to the Rankings have occurred this month but unfortunately the results from the World Championships have not yet been entered on RTO so there may well be more changes to come.
Unsurprisingly, activity on the site has been high this month with an average of just under 200 hits per day and a record of 324 hits on one day.

Incentive Scheme for Amateur Lady players to reduce their Handicap
Following up on an idea from Claire Vigrass, the LRTA is pleased to introduce a programme to provide incentives to amateurs to encourage them to work at reducing their singles handicap and to play in tournaments. These incentives relate to offering financial support for the provision of racquets, clothing, lessons, free tournament entry, contributions to travel expenses to tournaments etc. Click on the picture for more details.

Monthly update for February 2013
No change to the Rankings this month but a couple of small changes to the top ladies' handicaps.

Remember the closing date for entries to the British Open (to be played from 8th to 14th April 2013 at Seacourt) is 17th March so get your entries in soon. If you would like to be involved but don't want to enter the main events, the Handicap Doubles tournament runs during the week and is a great way to join in the competition, to be around to watch the top players' matches and to add to the atmosphere of the whole event.
Our best month yet for individual visits to the website: an average of nearly 150 visits per day.

A slightly new look to the site this month with the navigation bar moving to the bottom of the header on each page. This change was requested by a site user and we are very happy to respond positively to your suggestions. Many thanks to Candida Nicholls for coding this change for us. Candida has been co-opted on to the LRTA Executive Committee to help bolster our IT capability as we become more and more dependent on technical solutions to support our various activities. More information about Candida and her responsibilities will be published shortly.

Monthly update - December 2012
I do hope you've all had a lovely Christmas and are getting geared up for the second half of the season.
The number of unique visits to the website has dropped this month to an average of 115 a day, but we've all had much more important things to do this month than browse the web, so still a reassuring average,
The Rankings have been updated with two players swapping places and several changes of handicap. Results, report and photographs of the Mothers & Daughters tournament held this month are now available and if you have recently returned to work in London, see below the very generous offer from the T&RA to give you the opportunity to play tennis in Central London.
Do remember to let us know if you have any events at your Club that you think may be of interest to lady players in general or anything else you would like to be considered for the site.
Wishing you all a very happy, healthy, peaceful and prosperous New Year with lots of successful and enjoyable tennis thrown in for good measure.

Time for another monthly update - October 2012
Firstly, apologies to any of you who have tried to access the site over the weekend of 27th/28th October 2012 and have been directed to an Easyspace web page. Probably my fault for trying to be parsimonious with LRTA funds (well, I am your Treasurer) and downgrading our web hosting package now that we have two sites. The resolution should not result in any extra cost or a return to the previous single site costs.
We are still receiving around 75 unique visits a day which is great and we do hope this means you are still enjoying the site.
Re the update, the Rankings have been updated again and there are quite a few changes as the season gets under way. A new page has been added to record Match Results and provide photos and reports of matches if provided. As well as being available via the link above, these can be accessed as the season progresses via the Fixtures/Results page. There have been some updates to some of the Rolls of Honour as more information comes in.

New Sponsorship deal - October 2012
We are very pleased to announce a new agreement with Neptune re sponsorship for the British Ladies Open Singles and Doubles and the British Open Handicap Doubles. The agreement covers sponsorship for these tournaments for the next three years and we are extremely grateful to Robin Geffen and Neptune for their continued, generous support for the ladies game.
Alex Garside, Chairman of the LRTA says: "I am delighted that Neptune wish to continue their sponsorship of the British Ladies Open (including the Handicap Doubles) and by committing to do this for 3 years shows their dedication to supporting ladies real tennis for which I am most grateful. The game is much indebted to Robin Geffen's generosity."

Ladies World Championships - 2013
It is now confirmed that the Ladies World Championships in 2013 will be held in Paris from 15th to 21st April 2013. Gabrielle Smart, the organiser for the 2013 tournament, writes: "Go ahead and book your plane tickets. More details will be following shortly. I can offer
accommodation to about eight people, so if there are young players who hesitate
to come, please inform them of this. The fee will, as in 2005, be around 280 Euros in total,
which I will itemise for those not wishing to attend all the week's events (in
particular the gala dinner which will be about 85 Euros pp).
We will be setting up a website with a page for enrolment and payment and that should be ready I hope before Christmas."

Our new website is one month old 30th September 2012
Ancient in the modern world of instant communication!!
We are very pleased that we have had positive feedback from those who have contacted us and many thanks to those who have made helpful comments and corrections to errors. Excluding the first few days after the site was published (we had over 520 hits over the first weekend!) we have averaged around 75 visits a day which we think is a good average.
We have added some new pages: Links to the T&RA Handicap Calculators, information about the LRTA Facebook Group (do join if you use Facebook) and Who does What? if you ever need to know who to contact about various aspects of LRTA activity. We have also made the first monthly update to the Rankings list and changed the format of this page a little.
You will also note that we have updated the slideshow above with photos from the first of this season's tournaments at Leamington. It is our intention to do this for every tournament throughout the season as long as we have appropriate photos.
Do keep the comments coming in (contact us) and let us know of anything else you would like us to add to or change on the site.
Many thanks for your support in all our activities, not just the new website.

If you have an event at your club which you think is of general interest, do contact us and we will consider it for publication. Click on the photo for Results, more photos and a report on the play.
Our new website - published on 1st September 2012
In 2003, when Caroline Gilmore was Secretary of the LRTA, it was decided that it was time the LRTA had a website. Caroline and her husband, Jeremy, very kindly volunteered to produce a website for us and, having designed and implemented it, have maintained and developed it ever since. We are extremely grateful to them for all the hard work, expertise and time that they have put into it over the years.
So why develop a new site?
Unfortunately, we have always been dependent on Caroline and Jeremy to make changes to the site and we feel we have probably been reliant on them for far too long and can no longer take advantage of their generosity, though they have very kindly said they are happy to continue to look after us.
So we have developed a new site that we can update ourselves, sharing the load between us.
You will recognise some features on the new site as Caroline and Jeremy have been very kind in allowing us to use both the design and content of the previous site. But we have also added some new features so do please explore the new site. We would love to have your comments on the new site whether they are positive or not. Are we covering items in which you are interested? Are there other items you would like to see on the site? Would you like some of the current content presented differently? Do you find it easy to navigate and find the information you want? You can use our contact form or call or email any member of the LRTA Executive Committee whose details you will find in the Members Handbook (the Blue Book) with your comments.
We look forward to hearing from you.
