LRTA Incentive Scheme
This scheme is currently on hold
Guidelines for Awarding Incentives to Lady Players to Improve their Singles Handicaps
The LRTA provides incentives (eg part or all of the costs of one or more of the following: racquets, clothing, lessons, free tournament entry, contributions to travel expenses to tournaments, etc.) to encourage amateurs to work at reducing their Singles handicap - this scheme does not apply to Doubles handicaps. Below are the guidelines for how the scheme is regulated. The LRTA Executive Committee (the Committee) retains the right to waive, at its sole discretion, any or all of these Guidelines. Sponsorship is required for the scheme and incentives are only provided to the level of sponsorship available.
1. The scheme is operated with the approval of the T&RA that it complies with the T&RA Amateur Status Rules: http://www.tennisandrackets.com/general-rules-amateur-status.aspx so that the status of recipients is not compromised.
2. All judgements re handicaps are based on recipients’ entries on the RTO handicap system.
3. To be eligible, recipients must be:
a. amateurs
b. playing members of the LRTA (full or junior)
c. under 30 years of age
d. starting from a handicap of 35 or better (or 40 or better for juniors)
e. UK resident
4. The Committee regularly reviews handicaps and invites eligible members to join the scheme. Other players may approach the Committee for inclusion in the scheme if they believe they are eligible and have not been invited. The starting handicap is the best handicap achieved by the recipient in the previous 12 months.
5. Scheme members are expected to reduce their handicap by 15% within a period of 12 months. If they achieve their target within 12 months, they may be offered a further incentive. In any case, there is no limit on the number of times incentives are offered to an individual player.
6. Scheme members are expected to play in LRTA tournaments for which they are eligible. (This requirement may be waived if the recipient can show good reason for not entering a tournament.)
7. Incentives are only given once all three of the following have been achieved:
a. the Singles handicap target has been maintained for at least 3 months
b. at least 6 results having been recorded on RTO and
c. at least two of these are results for competitive matches (eg tournaments, inter-club matches, National League, etc.).
8. If players’ handicaps are adjusted manually on RTO, the Committee reserves the right to review the reasons for the adjustment and to decide whether or not to accept the change in relation to the incentive scheme.
9. The Committee will decide what incentive to offer individual players having consulted their preferences, though it must be understood that it may not be able to meet stated preferences. Players starting in the 35 to 40 range handicap may be offered lesser value incentives.
10. If a player is injured such that they are unable to play or train during the 12 months allowed for achieving the target, the Committee will review such cases individually before deciding what, if any, action to take.
11. If it is decided that a player has not achieved the requirements specified for receiving an offered incentive, the Committee will inform them in writing (email or letter as appropriate) of the reasons for their decision. The player may appeal with supporting reasons, again in writing, and the Committee will review its decision but following this its conclusions will be final.
