LRTA U21 Handicap Singles 2019
The U21 handicap tournament sponsored by Beard for the 3rd year running took place at Radley and some new and exciting players entered the arena. A total of 15 girls entered and three Oxford University players emerged as the strong candidates, Laura Neill and Mary Stevens both scraped into the semi-finals 7- 6 giving 20 handicap points away to Eloise Flynn and Lilly May Redshaw respectively. Alex Reyner overcame Evie Tambling 7 - 4, 9 years her junior and also giving her 20 points, and 11 years old Clemmie Batstone from Radley receiving 20 points knocked out last year’s winner Olivia Boulton 7 – 6.
In the semi finals Laura Neill beat Mary Stevens 7 – 3 and Alex Reyner kept her cool again giving away another 20 points to beat Clemmie Batstone. In the final Laura was receiving 10 points against Alex Reyner. Both players have masses of talent. They are both very attacking, fast around the court players who can also volley well. On this occasion Laura was the winner 8 – 3. I am sure we will see them again over the coming years.
Congratulations to the winner Laura and finalist Alex who were presented with their trophies by Mark Beard, Executive Chairman of Beard Construction. Congratulations also to all the competitors who played some great tennis in great spirit over the weekend. They are definitely the ones to watch....
