Mothers and Daughters Results and Report 2013
Mothers & Daughters Handicap Doubles
8th December 2013 at Hardwick House
Mothers & Daughters 2013 – Vickers Trophy
On 8 December 2013, five pairs of mothers and daughters met at Hardwick House for the annual Mothers & Daughters tournament. As one of each pair had not played for a long time or were new players, the games were played off a rolling handicap.
The day kicked off with Kim and Jess Walker against Lucy Davies and Annabel Bernard who had previously won the trophy back in 1994 and 1996. The Davies/Bernard pairing got off to a strong start winning 6-2. Lucy and Annabel then went on to beat Sarah and Ciara Sullivan 6-3. Patsy Danby & Lara Jamieson, who had also won the tournament twice previously, played Eleanor & Sarah Beale and also showed strong form beating the Beales 6-2. By the time the Walkers played the Beales, they had started to get into their stride and the match ended with a nail biting five all, forty all with victory going to Kim and Jess.
However the day was dominated by the victors, Lucy and Annabel, who did not lose a single match, with Patsy and Lara runners-up, who only lost one match . . . to Lucy and Annabel! A repeat of the 1996 final!
Apart from Kim and Jess all the other pairs had won the tournament at least once before and Jess, as the youngest and newest player of the day, has lots of potential with her mum to be serious contenders in the future.
Huge thanks to Lucy who has run this tournament for many years, and it is always a fun and friendly day. It is a particularly good opportunity for girls new to the game to come and have some fun in a relaxed environment and also enjoy the splendid lunch provided by Lucy.
