The 10th Tennis & Golf Day was held at Hardwick House and Huntercombe Golf Club on Wednesday 5th May 2004.

Over the ten years that we have played thirty two ladies have taken part.  There were 16 this year from all over the country.  Tiffany Fielden made the journey from Manchester for the first time, Brenda Fairbarns and Carolyn Armstrong-Smith came from Petworth, Ros Lake, Jane Weiss and Sheilagh Owens from Hatfield and Jane Terry from Moreton Morrell.

There was some very good tennis at Hardwick.  Pam Tomalin kindly stood in for an injured Sara Whittaker.  In the first group 4 pairs played round robin and Sarah Brownlee and Sheilagh Owens came out on top.  In the second group Brenda Fairbarn and Tiffany were successful.  The final was won by Tiffany and Brenda by 5 games to 3.

Huntercombe gave us all an excellent lunch and Sara Whittaker was able to join us for the golf.  The bluebells were quite spectacular this year.  The weather forecast was awful but we were very lucky and only had one really heavy shower.  Even if the golf was not wonderful to watch the beautiful red kites certainly were.  The format was stableford and there were some very good scores this year.  The winner was Ros Lake with 38 points on the back 9 holes from Sara Stewart.

After some delicious sandwiches and cake Lucy presented the prizes and thanked Huntercombe very much for having us again and making us so welcome.  Everyone went home very contented but quite exhausted – it had been a long day.
